Buck Sexton weighed-in on the ongoing feud between Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell and former Trump advisor Steve Bannon, saying GOP voters are stuck between do-nothing establishment politicians and the possibility of handing Congressional control over to Democrats.
“What about the Republicans who already hold office who clearly lied to their constituencies when it came to the repeal of Obamacare. John McCain ran on repealing Obamacare. John McCain has made sure that Obamacare will remain unchanged,” said Buck. “What about them? What do we do about those Republicans who are not, in fact, willing to keep their promises?”
“It just seems to me that we’re put in an unwinnable situation,” he added. “McConnell’s saying that they need to keep mostly establishment folks in office, but nothing happens legislatively. He says that Trump won’t get anything legislatively without us. On the other hand, you have Bannon who’s saying we need an all-out war on the GOP establishment.”
“The problem with Bannon’s approach is that if he’s not right, and if we do lose some winnable seats, and if the Republican party finds itself out of power because of the intra-party feuding, then he would have empowered the Democrats and you’ll have a Republican party that will be left with no accomplishments,” Sexton said.
“Something’s got to give here. Republicans either need to get something done in the Congress or they’re has to be a ‘throw the bums out’ movement,” said Buck.
