Speaking on ‘America Now’ Wednesday, host Buck Sexton commented on the GOP’s fight for tax reform, saying “nobody really knows” if Republican Senators have the guts to seriously reform the nation’s bloated and outdated tax code.
“We’ll see. I can’t tell you what’s going to happen because Trump can’t tell you what’s going to happen. Nobody really knows,” said Buck. “No one knows how many Republican Senators are going to lose their nerve on any number of legislative issues and agenda items.”
“I’m hoping that getting tax reform through will at least put something up on the board to restore the faith that I think is rapidly slipping away from those of us who voted for Republicans in the last election cycle,” he added.
“I’m hoping that they’re going to get something through on tax reform. If they can’t do that, you have to wonder, what’s the point of a Republican majority? If it is just the status quo, if it’s just business as usual,” said Sexton.
Buck warned GOP lawmakers that tax-reform won’t “be enough” to restore voter confidence in the party, adding that they need to make significant progress on healthcare and the border wall to make good on their promises to the American people.
“Taxes is not going to be enough. There has to be more. There has to be healthcare, there has to be a wall… or else what was all this for? The next Hillary is coming along, the next Hillary will be here within a matter of months,” said Buck.
“So here we are now, with some momentum and some movement on taxes, we’ll see. I think this is one area […] where we can get something done here, but this is not going to change your life,” he added.
