For that amount of money, Whole Foods really doesn’t have to give up much. They’ll continue to operate stores under their brand, and the company’s founder and CEO, John Mackey, will remain in his position (at least for now).
“Whole Foods Market has been satisfying, delighting and nourishing customers for nearly four decades – they’re doing an amazing job and we want that to continue,” said Amazon CEO Jeff Bezos in a statement.
What’s always amused us about Whole Foods is that the people who eat there either don’t realize, or consciously repress, the fact that they are enriching one of the public’s most outspoken free market conservatives. Mackey is the founder of Conscious Capitalism, and a lover of Ayn Rand.
For people like us who love French cheese, but are too lazy to grocery shop, this sounds…delightful.
We’ll be talking about this on tonight’s show — tune in!
