Majority whip Steve Scalise has been released from MedStar Hospital as of today, the hospital said.
“He is in good spirits and is looking forward to his return to work once he completes rehabilitation,” MedStar said in a statement. “He and his family are grateful for the care he received from the trauma team as well as the other doctors, nurses, and staff of MedStar Washington Hospital Center. The family also appreciates the outpouring of prayers and support during this time.”
Scalise “is now beginning a period of intensive inpatient rehabilitation,” the statement continued.
Scalise surprised House members with a phone call yesterday, where he jokingly inquired whether the Senate had passed the health care bill.
It’s been an up-and-down recovery, and Scalise still faces physical therapy, but we’re thankful at this latest news.
