Congress agreed in principal to a $900 billion COVID-19 relief bill to aid Americans who have faced dire economic hardships due to the pandemic and subsequent lockdowns, and are now enjoying an Christmas week victory lap.
The New York Times reported that stimulus will be doled out—hopefully—by the beginning of next week and will be sent to qualifying individuals, similar to the first stimulus.
But Buck Sexton, the host of “The Buck Sexton Show,” pointed out on Monday that the coronavirus relief bill took months of negotiations while Americans suffered while politicians continued to cash their unimpeded government checks.
“Why did we have to wait four months?” Sexton asked. “Businesses are going under, people are suffering terribly, economically, and otherwise from this. So what’s the reason for this taking so long? Well, we know the reason. And it’s, of course, [House Speaker] Nancy Pelosi and the Democrats playing games here.”
Sexton said Democrats—once again—tried to damage Trump at every turn prior to the election because they had such a weak candidate running for president. Sexton said the proof is in the pudding. Democrats agreed to even less money than was offered in the summer by Treasury Secretary Steve Mnuchin.
“So Nancy was so smart in these negotiations, or perhaps I should say so concerned with the interests of the American people,” he said. “That she slowed the whole thing down under the premise that she wanted more, and now because she believes [Joe] Biden has this thing all sewn up and it’s all done now, Pelosi is taking less money.”
Sexton said that Democrats wanted to make sure that the American people were suffering from “maximum misery” prior to the election. He said they agreed to the new deal because it was never about what was best for Americans. He said it was clear that Biden’s chances in 2020 were helped by Americans who felt abandoned by Washington.
“It was about doing what will benefit Democrats politically the most,” he said. “Remember, this is the government effectively giving your money back to you. So they shut down businesses. They’ve shut down millions of people’s livelihoods across the country.”
