Buck Sexton, the host of “The Buck Sexton Show,” criticized “selfish” Democrats and “ineffectual” Republicans over the delay to another round of stimulus checks for Americans in dire need of cash during the coronavirus pandemic.
As of late Wednesday, congress leaders were close on coming to an agreement on a $900 billion stimulus, which will be paid out to millions of Americans, according to the New York Times. The bill, which would amount to less than half of the $2.2 trillion one in the spring, will also provide funding for additional unemployment benefits and food assistance, the paper reported.
But regardless of whether or not the bill gets passed, Sexton said it is “shameful that we’re at this point.”
Sexton said Americans are literally being told by their state governments that they are not allowed to go to work and make a living if they hold jobs in businesses determined to be “non-essential.”
“What are they supposed to do? You’re not allowed to work. not everyone has savings to indoor these tough times, right? So what is supposed to happen now?” Sexton asked.
Sexton pointed out that congress has been working for months on the bill and only now—just a week before Christmas—do we see serious action.
He said the problem is “the vain, selfish, conniving Democrats and the somewhat ineffectual and incompetent Republicans can’t figure this thing out…really makes you wonder.”
Sen. Chuck Schumer, D-N.Y., told reporters on Wednesday, “We’re making good progress. No one gets everything that they want, but we’re feeling pretty good.”
Sen. Ron Johnson, R-Wis., told reporters, “First of all, I’m sure it will pass. That’s the way business is done here—just spend more money.”
Johnson said that the money that will be spent is not targeted and will go to many who don’t need any stimulus. WISN reported that he said, “This place is completely dysfunctional. It’s broken. It’s disgusting. I’m not a fan.”
Sexton said the delay is why so many Americans have such little faith in their elected officials.
“I’m sure they’ll get some kind of a deal done or I hope they’ll get some kind of deal done. But that it’s taken this long in itself is a scandal and a disgrace. And we should remember that,” he said.
