Joe Biden, the “president-elect,” has said in an interview on Thursday that he plans to ask Americans to wear masks during his first 100 days in office in an effort to reduce the spread of the coronavirus.
He did not specify why “100” seemed like the right number, and what scientific research showed that number would be more effective than, say, 98 days, but it’s a round number that spans a few months. Biden made sure to point out it is “not forever—100 days.”
That has been the go-to line by politicians during the coronavirus epidemic. Keep putting out timeframes that seem manageable, but will require some sacrifice.
Buck Sexton, the host of “The Buck Sexton Show,” said Friday that if this is the best Biden’s got, we’re in trouble. He said cities and states that have already enforced mask mandates have seen a surge in cases.
“Do they understand why this is happening?” Sexton asked. “Because the masks certainly haven’t stopped it. So I’m just wondering, does anybody have a theory of that, because they keep telling us mask up, mask up, mask up.”
Biden spent most of the campaign trying to damage President Trump by attacking him on his coronavirus response, and yet he also said that he would ask Dr. Anthony Fauci, the country’s top disease expert, to serve on his coronavirus task force. Fauci is loved by liberals and maintained a tenuous relationship with Trump. But Fauci has said in several interviews that Trump has listened to his advice.
Sexton said it is the definition of insanity, but Biden wants you to continue trying something that he already proven not to work. Sexton pointed to the 14 million confirmed coronavirus cases in the U.S., and questioned what the number would be if there were no mask guidelines. He said politicans and health officials simply don’t know.
Sexton has been a fierce critic of coronavirus mandates that he called arbitrary.
“We’ll find out in a few years. probably that’s when they’ll actually do the real studies to see. And that’s on your vehicle to look and do an honest compilation of data,” he said, when it comes to the effectiveness of masks. “But we know it’s not early effective. That’s 100%. That’s absolutely certain.”
