“This is not because of renewable dependency,” billionaire Bill Gates told Anderson Cooper on Friday. “This is natural gas plants, largely, that weren’t weatherized. They could’ve been. It costs money, and the trade off was made, and it didn’t work out, and it’s tragic that its lead to people dying.”
Gates was responding to Texas Governor Greg Abbott‘s claim that frozen wind turbines were to blame for the massive power failure.
“This shows how the Green New Deal would be a deadly deal for the United States of America,” Abbott said on Fox News. “It just shows that fossil fuel is necessary for the state of Texas, as well as other states, to make sure that we will be able to heat our homes in the winter time and cool our homes in the summer time.”
But Bill Gates who has invested heavily in renewal energy, said that “it is ironic to blame renewables and not realize that we’re going to have to be dealing with this unless we get the whole world to reduce omissions.”
Meanwhile many in Texas are still under a boil-water advisory in the aftermath of the storm, that left 47 dead in Texas and across nine other states as of Friday.
